Corruption in Nepal

Corruption refers to illegal bribe which is given to someone for doing something. It is a punishable crime by law. Giving and accepting any bribe is prohibited by law. The officials and leaders cannot accept any bribe if they are honest and dutiful. Therefore, corruption is the matter of illegality, negligence, lack of sincerity and honesty.
In Nepal, mostly government officials and leaders are found to have been involved in corruption. They abuse their position-power to influence others. If they are not honest and sincere, they can be involved in corruption. The problem of corruption in Nepal is a burning challenge now. It is said that some public position holders do not care their duties; rather they only care their own benefits. They are found to have been involved in the practice of corruption.
There are some factors which are responsible for promoting corruption. They are extreme greed to earn more money, selfishness, lack of honesty and absence of moral values. Furthermore, the deeply rooted culture of slavery encourages people to be corrupt. Similarly, poorly paid officials are compelled to accept bribe to run their daily life. The officials and the leaders who do not realize their duties and responsibilities are likely to be involved in the practice of corruption.
The condition of corruption in Nepal has demoralized the dignity and prestige of the nation. If people are corrupt, development paces very slowly. The corrupt people become very rich illegally overnight. The difference between the rich and the poor gets wider and wider. The poor feel oppressed by the rich. The poor and oppressed are likely to start destructive struggles against the government if the corrupt are not legally punished by the state. Corrupt mentality and activities of the officials and the leaders may lead them to other crimes. It is certain that corruption leads the human civilization to failures and ruins.
In order to uproot existing corruption, the corrupt should be legally punished by the state. The property illegally earned by the corrupt should be nationalized. Some general people who are the victims of slavery offer something to the officials even if it is not demanded. Such people should be educated by teaching them why giving and taking bribe is a crime. Poorly paid low rank officials’ salary should be increased. All the corrupt people are to be fired from the positions. It should be publicized through Medias such as radios, TV’s and newspapers.
Corruption is a social, legal and moral crime. It leads the human civilizations to ruins. It should be first discouraged and gradually uprooted completely. To enhance human dignity and prosperity, corruption should be uprooted at any cost.
